In this essay, I discuss a recent healthcare experience that was less than ideal. I went to my local dental office for a routine cleaning and exam, but ended up having to wait over an hour to be seen. When I was finally seen by the dentist, she quickly examined my teeth and then told me I needed two cavities filled immediately. I was surprised by this diagnosis because I had no pain or other symptoms that would indicate there was anything wrong with my teeth. The dentist told me that if the cavities were not filled, they would continue to grow and could eventually lead to more serious problems such as tooth loss or infection.
